At Designwest, we continue to deliver high-quality graphic design work for Irish organisations and public consultation projects. One of our latest projects involved creating a range of visual communication materials for AtkinsRéalis on behalf of Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), as part of the Kylemore Station Public Consultation campaign. This included an A4 public information leaflet, an A3 poster, and a compact newspaper advert. Each piece required careful design thinking to communicate clearly, encourage public participation, and meet accessibility standards.

Graphic Design Brief: Clarity, Compliance and Engagement

Our graphic design team was commissioned to develop a cohesive set of materials that would work across different sizes and mediums. The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the proposed Kylemore Station project in Dublin 10, which forms part of Irish Rail’s long-term infrastructure strategy. Public engagement was a core goal, so the visual design needed to feel professional, accessible, and easy to digest at a glance.

A4 Leaflet Design – Public Consultation Brochure

The 8-page A4 Public Consultation Brochure served as the main printed asset. This was more than just a leaflet—it had to visually carry complex data including:

  • Project background and policy context
  • Maps of the preferred station location
  • Platform layout diagrams
  • CGI renderings of the future station
  • Public feedback contact details

Designwest implemented a clean, structured layout with plenty of white space and intuitive page hierarchy. Key technical data was translated into easy-to-follow visual content using icons, charts, and station maps. This was not just about aesthetics—our layout directly supported accessibility and reader comprehension, especially important for public-sector communication.

A3 Poster Design – Key Messaging in a Large Format

The A3 Public Consultation Poster was designed to catch attention in libraries and community spaces. Our designers focused on bold typography, clean bilingual messaging (English and Irish), and large-scale mapping to convey essential project information. The layout is modular and highly legible, ensuring the content can be scanned quickly by a passer-by while still delivering the key message: “Have Your Say.”

Compact Newspaper Advert – Targeted and Precise

We also developed a 156x260mm press advert designed to run in local newspapers. This compact format required efficient use of space without compromising readability or tone. We condensed the messaging while keeping the design consistent with the larger-format materials. By balancing type size, layout structure, and bilingual content, the final result was both eye-catching and informative.

Our Approach to Data Visualisation

One of the more technical aspects of this project was our use of data visualisation in print design. From platform measurements to project timelines and integration plans with future Luas and BusConnects networks, we took dense planning data and distilled it into digestible graphics. This ensured local residents—many of whom may not be familiar with transport strategy—could understand the proposals without confusion.

Why Graphic Design Matters in Public Infrastructure Projects

When designing for large-scale infrastructure projects like Kylemore Station, clarity and trust are everything. Our role was to bring professional design standards to the communication materials—ensuring that every word, map, and graphic helped foster transparency, accessibility, and public confidence.

This is where great graphic design in Ireland makes a difference. It’s not just about how something looks. It’s about helping people connect with information that affects their lives.
