Designwest based in Mayo, Ireland, have just completed a brand new responsive website design for Castlerea Railway Museum. Castlerea Railway Museum is a vast collection of rail memorabilia celebrating the history of railways in Ireland. They hold the largest private collection of rail memorabilia in Ireland, and work to preserve and promote the importance of this history. Castlerea Railway Museum holds Ireland’s largest private collection of rail memorabilia; from train carriages to bells to travel tickets, and everything in between. The Museum is located adjacent to the now closed Hell’s Kitchen Bar in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. The Bar once formed part of the Museum, and famously was the only pub of its kind in Ireland to uniquely feature a full-scale train within the bar!
When the Designwest team, based in Mayo, Ireland, were approached by Castlerea Railway Museum to create a brand-new website design for them the team got straight to it. The Castlerea Railway Museum website uses the striking logo as a prominent feature on the website. The website has 7 pages that showcase everything the museum has to offer. A reviews plugin is used to display the Tripadvisor reviews they received. There is a news page which the client can update to keep visitors informed of the latest events the museum is hosting.
The Designwest team, based in Mayo, Ireland, gave it their all as usual and this is what they presented to the client. The website features some great functions like an online contact form and a gallery of what is on show in the museum. When we showed the Castlerea based client the design they were over the moon as they really liked the colour scheme and the images.
The website is built with WordPress, and is fully responsive on all devices. A responsive theme is built with a responsive experience, and is the best experience a user can have while using any device. Different screen sizes like Desktops, Tablets like an iPad and smartphones, all need different layouts. The wordpress press theme used in this website means that the layout is always optimised for the device being used. One page is dedicated to the collection at the museum. The Gallery page uses a lightbox feature to easily view the images and history of the museum.
On smaller screens, such as smartphones, the theme used in this website offers better readability and usability. The majority of people use their mobiles to view the internet. It is this reason that a responsive website design is very important, if the maximum number of people are to be reached. The Designwest team, based in Mayo, Ireland, really enjoyed working with Castlerea Railway Museum again and we hope to work with them a lot more in the future.
